Cornerstone Sonoma Chinese Garden

The installation, emphasizing Chinese culture and its philosophy of the mutual existence of nature and humans, is among the finalists selected for Cornerstone Sonoma Garden. The concept embodies the symbols and best wishes that are important components of conventional Chinese agricultural civilization. The terraced field and fish pond resemble the peaceful village. The big old tree, as a sign of unity, is where villagers gather. The signature sculpture, a modern interpretation of compost bin for waste after harvests, reflects the respect people used to have in the natural cycle. It also resembles the Chinese aspiration of abundant harvests. Structures built from recycled disposable chopsticks as an adaption of traditional building techniques is a calling for environmental protection.
